The solicitor tells her that it has been said in Rye for as long as he can remember that smuggler’s treasure was hidden in the Gay Dolphin. There was a big tin box full of old papers and books which Mrs. Warrender hands over to Penny and Jon to sort out, and what they find in her uncle’s Family Bible plunges them straight into a first-class mystery.
Just as events become a little too much for them the Morton family comes to stay at the hotel. David, with Dicke and Mary, the famous twins who were among the original members of the Lone Pine Club, join in the adventure, and from then the story moves quickly to a terrific climax.
This new edition includes all of the original text and illustrations from the first edition, along with 15 pages of new introductory material and articles including the full publishing history of the book.
