Description
Elsie Oxenham's Abbey School series has long been a particular favourite with girls who appreciate a good story, and it is not hard to find the reason. With a delicious sense of fun, Miss Oxenham brings together all the ingredients for a first-tare tale - an interesting subject, a set of well-known characters and a great spirit of adventure.
The Abbey Girls Go Back to School is right up to Miss Oxenham's high standard - indeed, it is one of her best. It tells how Cicely, the confident founder and President of the Hamlet Club, arranges for Joan, Joy, Jen and Jen's friend Jack to accompany her to Cheltenham for a month to attend the annual summer folk-dance school, and of the shock the experienced dancers receive at the first class. The story naturally contains much detail about folk-dancing, but it continues the development of the personalities of the main characters as they prepare to enter adult life, and encounter both great happiness and great distress.
Readers of other books by Miss Oxenham will be delighted to know that Tazy Kingston and Karen Wilson from the Swiss series, and Tormentil Grant also appear in this book.
