Description
Loveday, Head Girl of the Chalet School, leaves unexpectedly and Bride Bettany is asked to take over the post. She does so, and finds herself plunged into a series of difficulties, not the least being that the school had taken in a number of pupils from another Chalet School whose Head Mistress has died.

The Head’s substitute was ultra-modern, and, under her guidance, the Tanswick School has become a “freak one”, where the girls work as and when they please. They find the change to St. Briavel’s little to their taste. Diana Skelton, in particular, resents it deeply. Trouble arises between her and the prefects and she is obliged to give in. Blaming Bride for this, she takes her revenge, which recoils on her own head. However, after the first shock, Bride shows herself both sympathetic and understanding.

Bride was one of the first titles GGBP published, back in 2002.   Following numerous requests for its republication it is due out in early April 2011 - with some brand new material as well.    Helen Barber has written an article about girls who do not fit in at the Chalet School, as background to EBD's portrayal of the impossible Diana Skelton.  And Adrianne Fitzpatrick has written a short story, In the Strangest Places.
